Figure out how much you can afford to spend on a monthly basisâ€"AFTER doing things like saving for retirementâ€"and then whatever is left over can go towards debt payments.”Youll need to start slow.If you don’t have any credit, you may not be able to qualify for personal installment loans with reasonable interest rates. But there is a way to take on good debt to build up your credit without having to deal with sky-high Annual Percentage Ratings (APRs), which is the full cost of a loan in a given year including fees and interest.“Get a secured credit card,” recommended Smart Shopping Expert Trae Bodge. “Building credit is all about using credit and a secured credit card is a good way to do that. This will help you build credit until you are able to qualify for credit on your own.”However, even if you’re paying off your credit card bill in full each month, as you should, you still don’t want to charge too much on it.“Don’t max out your cards,” Ross told us. “Maintain a good credit utilization ratio (don’t exceed 30 percent of the credit that’s available to you).”Be careful how many accounts you open.While you may be tempted to open as many accounts as possible to grow your credit score as soon as possible, this is not a good move!“We’ve mentioned several great options for building your credit score up from zero, but they all have one thing in common: they take time,” Ellis explained. “If you’re impatient like I am, you might think ‘hey , if I open two or three of these accounts at once, that will build my credit twice as fast!’ Right?“Let me tell you … definitely not! Here’s why. Every time you apply for new credit, the lender will pull your full credit report from the credit bureaus I mentioned earlier. This is called a Hard Inquiry and it’s visible to other lenders. “When lenders see multiple Hard Inquiries back-to-back, they know that you have added additional debt in a short period of time.“And that makes them nervous! Their primary concern is getting their money back, and the more debt you add at once, the higher the likelihood that you will stop paying on at least one of those loans.“Have you ever had a favorite local restaurant that tried to grow too fast, opened up a bunch of new locations at once, and failed because they couldn’t maintain the same quality as before Bingo! Don’t stretch yourself too thin.”Ross echoed that advice: “Limit the number of open accounts. Apply for and ope n new credit card accounts only when it is truly necessary. Too many opened accounts can send a negative message to your potential lenders.”Don’t get ahead of yourself.You’re not suddenly going to have a great credit score overnight. And that’s OK.“Start small,” advised Ford. “The amount you end of charging is small in comparison to you paying on time. Events to Help End Segregation - 549 Words

There were an additional three major events that helped end segregation. The first being the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which had started because of the arrest of Rosa Parks on December 1st, 1955. It started when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama to a white person, and because of this she was arrested, tried and convicted of disorderly conduct. The outrage sparked by her arrested led to a 13-month mass boycott of Montgomery buses. This boycott led to the Supreme Court’s decision to ban segregation on buses in 1956. The second event was on September 24th, 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Federal Troops and the National Guard intervened and escorted a group of nine African American children, who became known as the â€Å"Little Rock Nine†, to Little Rock Central High School and ensure that they were safe, which aided in ending the segregation in schools in Arkansas. The third event was the Greensboro Lunch Counter Sit-on which occurred on February 1st, 1960. This event while prompting similar non-violent protests all over the South, also ended segregation at the Woolworth department store chain in the Southern United States. Laws and additional rights started to change due to the events of â€Å"Bloody Sunday,† on March 7th, 1965 in Selma, Alabama. What started as a fifty-four mile march to the Alabama’s capital protesting for African American voting rights, soon became a brutal assault by heavily armed state troopers and deputies. David Copperfields childhood was filled with intense mixtures of pain and agony and love and care. He was born to only a very loving mother, his father having passed away before his birth. Davids relationship with his dear mother and maid, Peggoty, build his foundation of life on love and happiness. Unfortunately his wonderful childhood is interrupted by the introduction of a new character to his life. David has a new and dreadful father, Mr. Murdstone. Soon after their introduction into Davids life, the Murdstones take over Mrs. Copperfield both physiologically and physically. David is sent away, at a very young age to harsh living environments smashing his childhood to pieces. His childhood memories altered every relationship he had from then forth. As David approached the Wickfields residence for the first time he noticed the strange figure of Uriah Heep first peering through the window and then observed his character first hand soon after. Uriah was depicted as a serpent-like man, with uncanny features to his person. David at first became attracted to Uriah, intrigued by his mysteriousness. Soon David could see through Uriahs umble scheme of making others feel pity for him, and then stabbing them in the back. David became disgusted with Uriahs character and nearly found him unbearable. David waited for every moment to justly criticize Uriah. In one scene in a time of great pressure, Uriah opened himself to the Wickfields and David telling them of his secret love for Agnes and his intention to marry her. With this David became enraged and furious at the thought of Uriah repulsive fingers touching Agnes, his sister-like friend and following other comments from Heep he hit him. Heeps character is fully revealed, as he is caught r ed-handed stealing money from Ms. Trotwood. He is sent to jail where he can be among his umble people. David visits him in jail and speaks with him in front of Mr. Creakle, the superintendent. Uriah centers the conversation around his now not so umble self, claiming he is a better person and, in fact, better than his former employer and his family, the Wickfields. But David is far too understanding of Uriahs nature and can see through him like glass. He realizes that Uriahs scheme is to convince the warden to release him and to suggest that the Wickfields be omitted to be purified. Uriah also mentions his quarrels with David, suggesting that he was the victim and he gives David his forgiveness. Uriahs character is one that deceitfully makes a person to feel sorry for his background and situation, gaining that persons sympathy, but soon after his true motives and personality are discovered. This was the exact case with David and the entire Wickfield family and their relations find, a s Dickens himself describes, he is nothing more than a snake. Heroes is a major theme of the novel, almost every character has a hero of some significance, each in their own respects. David has many, but as a child he has but one, that is Steerforth. David meets Steerforth in his new school, Salem House. Steerforth, an older boy whom is very wealth in held in high respect among the students, immediately takes David under his wing. With the consent of David he receives privileges over his spending money and uses it to throw a party for David, to help David fit in. David looks up to Steerforth seeing him as an idol and he becomes very attracted to Steerforths overwhelming charm and handsome face. Steerforth is quite significantly the opposite of the repressed and timid people David had previously grown up with. Motivation is therefore the force that transforms and uplifts people to be productive and perform in their jobs. Maximising an employeeaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s motivation is necessary and vital to successfully accomplish the organisationaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s objectives and targets. However this is a considerable challenge to any organisationaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s managers, due to the complexity of motivation and the fact that there is no ready made solution or an answer to what motivates people to work well (Mullins, 2002). It is my intention in this essay to explore some issues around motivation and cite work based experiences to illustrate and substantiate any arguments or points of view. Main Body Mullins (2002) classifies motivation into Intrinsic and Extrinsic types. Intrinsic motivation involves psychological rewards to enhance job satisfaction, such as the opportunity to use oneaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ability, a sense of achievement, receiving appreciation and positive recognition or being treated in a considerate manner (Mullins, 2002:P490). Such methods ensure employees are constantly motivated while being engaged in activities that are enjoyable and rewarding. I was formerly employed by a supplier of automobile parts where in addition to using compensation as a means of motivation; they too were dedicated in ensuring their employees had maximum job satisfaction. This was achieved by giving autonomy in their job functions and assigning significant responsibilities, which allowed them to be involved in the decision making for their area of expertise. Pleasant working conditions and annual recognition of the aâ‚ ¬? Best salesman of the yearaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ and aâ‚ ¬? Best employee of the yearaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢, also enticed productivity and motivation. On the other hand aâ‚ ¬? Extrinsicaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ motivation is related to tangible rewards such as salary, fringe benefits, job security, promotions and conditions of work. (Mullins, 2002:P490). Therefore extrinsically motivated behaviours are those carried out to achieve some tangible rewards or compensation. Once again my employers excelled in designing an ideal incentive system, in their effort towards employee motivation. They already offered very competitive wages, of course on the belief that the more positive the reward the more likely the employee will be highly motivated and the better the performance (Vroom, 1964). They later introduced a perpetual cash bonus scheme for the junior staff, where every year instead of bonuses being paid out, they would be retained in the companyaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s employee fund. A bonus was typically a third of their net salary and with every completed year of service their bonuses would grow. However if the employees engaged in activities detrimental to the organisations operations, such as pilfering, they would thus loose their accumulated bonus. This proved very effective in not only retaining employees but also motivating them to work towards and within the organisational parameters at maximum productivity. It also encouraged a sense of belonging and loyalty to the organisation. Incentives in the form of issuing companyaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s shares was never considered or offered. Perhaps the directors were of the opinion that it may have the draw back of not being specific enough to truly motivate the employee to work hard, stay in the organisation and also comply with company practices (Larcker 1983). I think however it was more to do with their fear of relinquishing ownership and the thought that the employee would reap the benefits, from their own selfless efforts and personal sacrifices over the years, to increase their share value. As for the senior executives various other schemes were introduced depending on their value to the company and length of service. Some benefited from receiving family membership to Medical Schemeaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s. This was a powerful retaining incentive as there was no free government health service in Kenya and often medical bills amounted to huge sums. Other senior executives had their childrenaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s private school fees paid or were gifted with family holidays. These decisions were made by the Directors and mostly based on what was mutually beneficial and also cost effective for the company. The longest in service and the most valuable members, whose continued job satisfaction and productivity was necessary for the continued success of the organisation; such the Chief Accountant and General Manager, were honoured with family homes in light of their 25 and 30 years service respectively. Another theory that throws light on employeesaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ motivation is the equity theory of Adam (1965). This theory states that people compare their rewards, relative to their contributions and to those of others. When they perceive unfairness or inequity, they experience disharmony and de-motivation. Employees evaluate equity by a ratio of inputs to outcomes; where inputs are their efforts and outcomes are what they receive such as pay, recognition, benefits or promotion. The theory also predicts that individuals who perceive their raise to be inequitable are likely to loose their enthusiasm and zeal; changing their behaviour to work less, in order to bring inputs in line with the perceived outcomes. They may also be prone to persistently expressing dissatisfaction and may eventually lead to resignation. I firmly believe from personal experiences and from observing my fellow colleagues at work that the Equity theory has been able to accurately determine the level of motivation and productivity. As such, every time my current employers make pay changes; we are on aâ‚ ¬? high alertaâ‚ ¬? for changes that might signal differences in how we are regarded by our employer, particularly in relation to our peers and accordingly we adjust our outputs. Conclusion While this essay attempts to appraise some of the motivational theories in light of the authoraâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s previous experiences, they may not be perfect for every situation. Each theory and notion boasts its own merits and limitations; and managers must judge its relevance and application to their own particular work situations. Even then the extent to which they may act as motivational factors may vary between organisations. The above methods described may have been effective for my organisation but not for another. There are also other motivational theories that have not been discussed here, but which may be as effective in motivating employees. Therefore it is the paramount function of management to identify the appropriate solution in order to motivate its employees. In todayaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s complex business environment; traditional approaches like monetary incentives are not the only prime motivators. In addition to expecting financial incentives for their performance, employeeaâ‚ ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s expectations are much more. Leadership in Aviation American Airlines was under Robert Crandall's leadership from 1980, when he was named president and later chairman, until he retired in 1998. He possesses characteristics like intelligence, character, ability, and desire, all of which is needed to get things accomplished through people. American Airlines was transformed from a small, domestic carrier to one of the world's leading airlines with the largest jet fleet worldwide. American led the airline industry in the 1990's in revenues and operating income, and its parent company, AMR Corporation, was one of the top Fortune 500 companies under Crandall’s reign. Raised in Rhode Island, Robert Lloyd Crandall graduated from his state’s university and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Business School. He worked as a regional credit supervisor for Eastman Kodak and later, headed the computer programming division at Hallmark Cards. In 1966, he joined TWA (TransWorld Airlines) as assistant treasurer. He briefly left the airline industry in 1972 to become senior financial officer at Bloomingdale's Department Stores, but returned the next year when American made him its senior Vice President of Finance (Robert L. Crandall: Official Biography). From there, Mr. Crandall advanced to president. During his 18-year tenure as head of American Airlines, Robert Crandall and his self-empowered team formulated many of the innovations that helped to revolutionize the airline industry after deregulation, when many competitors went bankrupt. American was the first to recognize the value of filling empty seats with discounted tickets now known as "Super Saver Fares." These tickets offered deep discounts for advance-purchase tickets and outsold cheap charter competition. He was also quick to see the importance of restructuring and building a route system around central hub airports to which many airlines still use today. To keep American Airlines on top of the industry, one of Crandall's visions was to accelerate the company's efforts into the rich overseas markets. By tapping into voids created by Pan Am, Eastern Air, Braniff Int’l and TWA, Mr. Crandall’s ambition acquired promising overseas routes to Asia and Europe, and Latin America. Perhaps Robert Crandall's greatest contribution to the success of American Airlines was his vision in propelling the SABRE Group from an internal division of the company to one of the world's largest, privately owned computer networks. Conceived in 1959, the Semi-Automatic Business Research Environment served as an internal link between American's offices and ticket counters to help track reservations. When talks aimed at developing an industry-wide reservation system, broken down between travel agents and major carriers in the mid-1970’s, Crandall successfully marketed his airline's computer system throughout the world.

This is not a limited list, but a general topic format that most informative speeches tend towards.The important thing to realize is that no matter which topic format the speech takes on, it can only be an informative speech if it conveys information that is factual, useful, instructive and/or enlightening to the audience. Introduction, body and conclusion: Most informative speeches are formatted with a defined introduction, a body of information and a conclusive ending. Clear, attention grabbing intro: The introduction to informative speeches should always be clear and catch the attention of the listeners.The introduction should lead up to the body of the sp eech in such a way that it is immediately grabs the interest of the audience. It should create a clear relation between the speaker and the topic as well as relating the topic or subject to the audience to pull them in and get them excited or interested in what is to come. It should create a clear outline of what is to be covered in the body of the speech and should do so in a clear and concise way to be effective and ensure that the audience is not bored from the start.Seamless transitions: When delivering informative speeches, the body should provide a smooth transition between the main points, ideas or concepts to convey all of the information effectively. This means that the speaker should, firstly, adhere strictly to the time limits imposed by planning ahead to present all of the information in a coherent manner and in a way that is easy for the audience to absorb and comprehend. The delivery should be natural and conversational; if it isn’t it will allow the audience to lose interest quickly and easily become distracted by the slightest diversion.The speaker should at all times demonstrate a vibrant enthusiasm or passion for the topic – if he is not enthused by it then there is no way he can expect his audience to be. The speaker should maintain eye contact stringently and progress from one point to another in a way that does not seem forced in any way, but seems to progress naturally without any breaks in momentum. Summarize at the end: When concluding an informative speech, the aim is to try and summarize the key points of the speech to reinforce the information in the minds of the audience.The conclusion of informative speeches should always be the means by which the speaker informs the audience that the speech is coming to an end, without actually saying so. It should review and repeat the most prominent concepts, ideas or aspects of the speech and should end the speech in the same seamless and natural way that is used throughout the sp eech. The important thing to note is that the conclusion is a vital part of the speech, and as such it should maintain the attention and interest of the audience until the very end.
